Thanks to Vickie M at bumpkinisms for this week's suggestion, a wonderful topic to celebrate Mother's Day this weekend...
My mother passed away a couple years ago, so everything tends to remind me of her...
1) Bob Chinn's - it was her favorite restaurant. She loved the garlic butter rolls there so much that she'd bring a big purse so she could sneak some home
2) The Carpenters - I remember hearing them playing all the time in my house, my mother loved to sing along with the records
3) Scottie Pippen and Michael Jordan - Back in the 90's when the Bulls were dominant, my mother would watch the games with us and our dad. She had no idea what was going on but would always cheer "Pippy!" or "Jordie!", her own little nicknames for Scottie and MJ.
4) Salisbury Steaks and Chicken Patties - My mother worked for a food service company, so she would always bring home samples that were sent to her. Our favorites were the salisbury steaks and the chicken patties. I just can't find food like that anymore!
5) My smile - People say my smile is like my mother's. Slap on a pair of 70's style glasses and put my hair in a bob and we'd look like sisters.
6) Clearance racks - the first place my mom would go in any store. Even now I feel a bit guilty for buying something for full price. Not as guilty as my sister Claudine, but guilty enough
7) Wheel of Fortune - God forbid anything else was on the television set at 6:30pm on a weekday - it HAD to be WHEEL.......OF.........FORTUNE! I know she dreamed of someday spinning that wheel!
8) Christmas Cards - My mom was awesome at giving Christmas cards - she always had them on time and always had her list of who to give them to. I definitely didn't get the genes for prompt Christmas cards. Even to this day I'm finding Christmas cards from 1998 that I hadn't sent out.
9) Roses - My mother loved roses. She was forever in the garden tending to her flowers and fruits, or watering the lawn, chatting it up with her best friend, my Tita Ellen, who lived next door. I'd always come home finding her outside working on the garden.
10) Godiva Chocolates - Every Christmas my mom's boss would give her a box of Godiva chocolates. Since my mother was lactose intolerant, she would give the chocolates to me and my sisters. We would then fight for the best chocolates and devour them in record time.
