10 Things You Can Do Instead of Watching TV

February 5th, 2008 by Yano

Since the Hollywood writer’s strike, I’ve had a lot of extra time on my hands. Well, not THAT much extra, since I have been watching less and less TV, but the television isn’t as important as it used to be. With the lack of new episodes, (how I’ve been dying for a new episode of Pushing Daisies!) I have found other things to do…

1) Scan old photographs - you know you’ve been wanting to get all those old yellowing pictures from your youth into your computer

2) Cook - I have been wanting to work on my cooking skills…working hard in the kitchen isn’t such a chore anymore when you’re not hurrying up to finish before prime-time

3) Catch up on the internet lives of the blogosphere - I’ve got a lot of friends and family with blogs, lately I’ve actually had some time to check out what’s going on in their lives

4) Work on your own blog - although I haven’t had time to change the layout or make any of the changes I’ve been wanting to on my blog, I’ve been posting a lot more than I have lately

5) Play video games - next to #10, this has been my tv-alternative of choice. Dusted off a couple computer games and quickly got addicted. Just like old times!

6) Read a book - haven’t read a book yet, but I have been catching up on my magazine subscriptions

7) Go out - something I have yet to do, though I think going to Chuck E Cheese for the night counts, right?

8) Sleep - which I would love to do, but late at night is when I do my best work since everyone is asleep and there’s no one to chase around or feed

9) Exercise.. yeah. right. :-P

10) Spend time with your family - usually TV time counts as family time, but this time around, I’m actually playing with my son instead of both of us zoning out to the TV
