10 Favorite Time Wasters

Tuesday, May 27th, 2008

I am a master at procrastinating, and I’m easily distracted from doing “real” work. What things do you find yourself immersed in, only to find that time has passed without knowing it? What things to do you as a way to put off other things?

  1. The internet. I would get TONS of work done if things like Facebook, youtube, twitter, flicker and messageboards didn’t exist. When I’m really trying to put off work, I google people. Sounds so dirty!
  2. Watch movies OnDemand on cable
  3. Scan old pictures
  4. “How It’s Made” on the Discovery/Science Channel. I totally get sucked into that show!
  5. Online poker. The great thing about it is that it’s free. If not, man, my son wouldn’t be able to go to college!
  6. Video games. Luckily, I gave my gaming system to my youngest sister, but my other sister brings her Wii over and we could spend the day (and night) playing Rock Band.
  7. “America’s Next Top Model” marathons on MTV. For some reason, whenever there’s a marathon on TV, I watch it, even though I’ve seen them before.
  8. Flickr. I know I mentioned it in #1, but I think of any app on the internet that I waste time on (and there are MANY), flickr gets most of my procrastination time. I organize my pictures, put map data on them, look at the photos on Explore, check out group discussions, etc. There’s a lot that you can do on flickr!
  9. The Zoo. We have a membership to the zoo, which is about 20 minutes away. When I have free time (and sometimes when I don’t) I like heading out there with my son and taking pictures.
  10. Sleeping. I love to sleep!

10 Movies You’re Excited to See

Tuesday, May 20th, 2008

The summer blockbuster movie season is on its way - what movies are you excited to see? Here’s a list if you don’t know what’s coming out this year: Feel free to list movies that are already out or on DVD already - I know I have zero time to get out to theaters to see movies, so most of these will be seen on DVD, if not on cable!

  1. Iron Man - Was at first a little weary of the big hype, but my fellow comic book geeks gave it the thumbs up, and they can’t be wrong!
  2. Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull - Although I’m 50/50 on it, I’d watch it just to see Harrison Ford move around a lot.
  3. Harold & Kumar Escape from Guantanamo Bay - Loved the silly stupidness of the first, I’m sure the second is just as silly and stupid
  4. Kung Fu Panda - This is actually one I might watch in a theater - during a really early show so there’s no one to complain about my son asking “What’s that” during the whole movie
  5. Get Smart - I grew up watching Maxwell Smart talk on his shoe phone. The only person who could fill Don Adams shoes is Steve Carrell!
  6. Wanted - Filmed in Chicago, what else can I say?
  7. Hancock - Yet another superhero movie, and it wouldn’t have been on my radar at all if not for those really interesting previews on TV. I admit, I’m intrigued.
  8. The Dark Knight - I’ve been trying to stay away from spoiler sites and seeing trailers and such, just so I can completely enjoy watching this movie. Of out all the movies on this list, this is the one that I will most likely see in the theater
  9. Mamma Mia - I’m an ABBA junkie, and I loved seeing Mamma Mia on stage. Even if this movie is half as good, that means it’s still going to be toe tappin’ fun!
  10. The X-Files: I Want to Believe - The X-Files is one of my favorite television shows ever, so I’m pretty excited to see it come back to the big screen

10 Things You’re Really Good At

Tuesday, May 13th, 2008

Hopefully this list is easy to do! Feel free to use pictures as well!

  1. Photo manipulation in Photoshop - Gwen Stefani for example
    Manga Gwen
  2. Mediating - Once, on jury duty, I was told, “This should be your job! You’re great at getting everyone on the same page.”
  3. Cooking empanadas
  4. Being lost (when I traveled, I got lost all the time. You can’t get stressed out or angry about it. Eventually you’ll find your way again)
  5. Decorating cupcakes
  6. My job - I’ve got the company awards to prove it!
  7. Getting all my gear ready when I’m in an airport security line. I’ve got it down to a science - one bin for shoes/jacket/bag of liquids and another for my laptop. Once I pass I pile all my things together and move to the very end of the checkpoint so I don’t clog up the line when I’m putting my stuff back on
  8. Googling. I am a Google master!
  9. Setting up electronics - VCR’s, DVD players, TV’s, etc. I’m a master at managing through those tough menus and figuring out which wire goes where
  10. Taking pictures of my son
