10 Guilty Pleasures on TV

Tuesday, June 30th, 2009

There are some shows that I’m not too proud to say I watch, but I do…either because there’s nothing else to watch and I’m intrigued, or because I secretly love them.

  1. I’m a Celebrity, Get me Out of Here!  - I hate myself for watching this show
  2. Wipeout! - This is my son’s favorite show.  When other kids are watching Dora and Mickey Mouse over and over every day, my son watches Wipeout.  What can I say?  He likes watching the pain of others…
  3. Oprah - the other day I cried with her and Celine Dion.  Damn her.
  4. Extreme Home Makeover - this is a show that’s guaranteed to make my tear up, if not cry.  I’m a sucker for these kinds of shows!
  5. Manswers - this show on Spike is awesome.  One of the few shows that my husband and I enjoy watching together.  It’s as if a bunch of college guys put all their questions in a bowl and Manswers picks several to answer a week.
  6. Real World/Road Rules challenges - You know that there’ll be a massive fight, lots of hook ups and backstabbing when watching this show
  7. Cake Boss - I’ve always wanted to be a cake decorator.  I live through Buddy.
  8. Life After People - What happens to the earth if people suddenly disappear?  This series goes around the world and shows us how all our technology and changes to the earth will slowly revert back to the wild.  Addicting!
  9. True Blood - Always loved vampires.  Always will.
  10. How It’s Made - Takes totally mundane things and shows how they’re made, which is surprisingly really interesting.  Who knew I would enjoy watching all the little bristles being put into a broom in slow motion?

10 Great/Awful Things About Television Today

Tuesday, October 7th, 2008

I admit, I watch a lot of TV, and there’s a lot of bad, crappy stuff out there…but there are some great things, too.

  1. Great - The sophomore year of some great shows - Eli Stone, Pushing Daysies,
  2. Awful - it seems like anyone can get their own reality show - Denise Richards, Lindsay Lohan’s little sister, Rachel Zoe (whoever she is)
  3. Great - Dancing shows.  I LOVE Dancing with the Stars, America’s Best Dance Crew and So You Think You Can Dance the most!
  4. Awful - the fact that there are a lot of great shows on at the same time, aka the Thursday at 8pm CT dilemma
  5. Great - Tivos and DVRs - Thursday at 8pm CT is no longer a dilemma, though now the question is, which do I watch live?
  6. Awful - That robot animation FOX uses during Sunday football games - you know, the one on the bottom left of the screen during breaks.  I HATE HIM.
  7. Great - Saturday Night Live.  Tiny Fey better be getting a LOT of money for the ratings she’s responsible for.  She’s awesome!
  8. Awful - The new shows this season.  There are really only one or two shows that I’ve been impressed with so far (Fringe and The Mentalist)
  9. Great -
  10. Awful - Shows that run over their alotted time - I always set my DVR to one minute passed the runtime because shows tend to save the best for the last moment - which you’ll miss if you just record for the time that they SAY that the show is going to run
