Giving the Gift of Life…Again

Well, gave blood again today. I think the experience went much better than it did last time. Last time it took me FOREVER to fill up the bag. Today, just 10 minutes. However, I had a lot of blood leaking from where they stuck in the needle. It got kinda messy. I know I’m going to have some bruising! And afterwards, there was blood everywhere and the lady was like ‘I’m surprised you’re not fainting’. Me too. But there’s just something fascinating about watching your own blood run down your arm. That, and feeling the blood drain out of you. Pretty cool stuff.

And then. The free juice and cookies. That’s the only reason I go, really. They have the best orange juice ever!

i guess my body DOES need sleep

Well, I haven’t been keeping up with my New Year’s resolution to get more than 4 hours of sleep a night. I dunno, there are so many things to do and so many things going on in my mind that I’m just not sleepy at night. Now during the DAY is another matter. However, I think this lack of sleep is getting to me. I went to take a nap yesterday at about 9 and didn’t wake up til 5 in the morning. Luckily, I woke up at 5 and was conscious enough to set my alarm. If not, then I would have just slept right through work!

Did I say it was cold yesterday?

FUCK! It’s even colder today! I woke up, and it’s -3 outside, and that’s without the windchill! With the windchill, its -28. And I found out on the news today that a couple years ago they changed how they calculate the windchill, so in actuality, the windchill would be -35! Ack! I didn’t even bother taking the train today. I don’t want to freeze to death out there. I must live!

Brrr! It’s Cold!

Well, I actually took the train to work today, and DAMN! It’s fucking cold out there! I don’t want to have any skin showing. It’s a 5 block walk to my office. By the time I get there, my hands are numb. So the temp today is in the teens, windchill in the single digits. Tomorrow, they’re expecting it to be in the single digits, can you imagine what the wind chill is gonna be? Makes me kinda wish I was back on the west coast again. Either that, or under my blanket, nice and toasty warm.

And to top it all off, no more hot cocoa in the office today!

Tell me if this is weird or not. I’ve taken a poll of people before, and they’ve said it’s weird. Over the last 2 or 3 weeks, I’ve seen a lot of street lights turn off. Like I’ll be driving along a highway, and one of the streetlights will burn out, right before I pass it by. Or even just on city streets. I’d say on average, I’d see one burn out 3 times a week. Does that happen to you guys at all? It used to happen often before (like once or twice a month) but had stopped occuring until a couple weeks ago. I find it really strange. And really eerie. Almost supernatural. Opinions, anyone?

Little Updates Here and There

Been making little updates to the site. Here’s a couple things I’ve added/modified:

- Art menu now links directly to the Artist/Comic
- Added all the old Blogger entries to the archives
- The Webcam Archive can now be seen in the Pics page
- Added random pic of me in the main page

This page is a constant work in progess, so I’ll be changing/adding things often.

There IS a Christine Yano Out There!

FYI for those of you that don’t know…my last name isn’t Yano. My name is Christine Feliciano. (I just threw that in there because this site doesn’t come up when you search on my name) Yano is just an abbreviated form of the last 2 syllables of my name. HOWEVER….it has come to my attention that there IS a Christine Yano out there….and it looks like she’s a pretty smart cookie. AND she lives in Hawaii. *sigh*

Nothing Can Beat ‘THE DRESS’

So yesterday I did more dress shopping. I took along my cousins Marian and Marilyn to help me out. We went to David’s Bridal, and it was a lot of fun. I let them pick out some of the dresses that I tried on. Some were cool, some I wanted to gag in. It was a very different experience than my trip to Saran Bridal. You could tell that David’s Bridal was a chain by the service I got. It wasn’t bad, but at Saran it was a bit more personable. Though I DID like the idea of being able to go through all the dresses and pick the ones that I tried on. Also, I liked that we were able to take pictures, too.

Alas, though, none of them held a candle to THE DRESS that I found a week ago. There was a small debate in my head, because the dresses at DB cost half as much as MDWD (my dream wedding dress) which would save me a lot of money. But then again, none of them made me feel as pretty or as excited as MDWD did. I think the extra money is worth it!

If you’d like the longer version, and pictures of our adventures, check out my wedding blog.

Afterwards, we went out to Baker’s Square for some pie. I’ve been itching for some for a while. It was nice to hang out with the cousins. We’ve never hung out together like this before. It was really nice. We talked about my crazy life (oh yeah, it’s CRAZY) and shared a lot of good laughs. Definitely something we have to do on a bigger scale next time! Melanie, Fatima and Claudine, keep your calendars open during Easter. We’re gonna have a gals night out! And we’ll find a fake ID for Marilyn! *evil grin*

The X-Men Legally Deemed NOT HUMAN!

Looks like a New York Judge has deemed that the X-Men aren’t human. Well, I think they are officially now ‘non-human creatures’. The funny thing is, Marvel actually WANTED them to be ruled as non-human so they can pay lower the duty rate when importing internationally. I guess human figures are called ‘dolls’ and have a higher duty rate than the non-human ‘toy’. It’s an interesting article. Check it out!

The Non-Holiday Commute

Drove in to work today again. Funny how travel times are different on a non-holiday. Yesterday, on MLK day, it took me 17 minutes to drive in to work. I was going an average of 70mph the whole time. Today, on a normal-ish rush hour day, it took me 50 minutes to get in. I was going an average of 5mph the whole time. Ech! I think on average, it takes me about 40 minutes to drive in. Today was pretty bad because the sun was so bright, and it’s dirty car time in Chicago, which means that everyone’s windshields are dirty from the salt.

CD for the Drive to Work: Norah Jones - Come Away with Me: I love this gal. I’ve loved her for a long time. She just has the sweetest voice. If this girl doesn’t win a Grammy, there’s something wrong with the world.

Happy Martin Luther King Day!

“I say to you today, my friends, that in spite of the difficulties and frustrations of the moment, I still have a dream. It is a dream deeply rooted in the American dream.

I have a dream that one day this nation will rise up and live out the true meaning of its creed: "We hold these truths to be self-evident: that all men are created equal."

I have a dream that one day on the red hills of Georgia the sons of former slaves and the sons of former slaveowners will be able to sit down together at a table of brotherhood.

I have a dream that one day even the state of Mississippi, a desert state, sweltering with the heat of injustice and oppression, will be transformed into an oasis of freedom and lustice.

I have a dream that my four children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin but by the content of their character.

I have a dream today.

I have a dream that one day the state of Alabama, whose governor’s lips are presently dripping with the words of interposition and nullification, will be transformed into a situation where little black boys and black girls will be able to join hands with little white boys and white girls and walk together as sisters and brothers.

I have a dream today.

I have a dream that one day every valley shall be exalted, every hill and mountain shall be made low, the rough places will be made plain, and the crooked places will be made straight, and the glory of the Lord shall be revealed, and all flesh shall see it together.

This is our hope. This is the faith with which I return to the South. With this faith we will be able to hew out of the mountain of despair a stone of hope. With this faith we will be able to transform the jangling discords of our nation into a beautiful symphony of brotherhood. With this faith we will be able to work together, to pray together, to struggle together, to go to jail together, to stand up for freedom together, knowing that we will be free one day.

This will be the day when all of God’s children will be able to sing with a new meaning, "My country, ’tis of thee, sweet land of liberty, of thee I sing. Land where my fathers died, land of the pilgrim’s pride, from every mountainside, let freedom ring."

And if America is to be a great nation this must become true. So let freedom ring from the prodigious hilltops of New Hampshire. Let freedom ring from the mighty mountains of New York. Let freedom ring from the heightening Alleghenies of Pennsylvania!

Let freedom ring from the snowcapped Rockies of Colorado!

Let freedom ring from the curvaceous peaks of California!

But not only that; let freedom ring from Stone Mountain of Georgia!

Let freedom ring from Lookout Mountain of Tennessee!

Let freedom ring from every hill and every molehill of Mississippi. From every mountainside, let freedom ring.

When we let freedom ring, when we let it ring from every village and every hamlet, from every state and every city, we will be able to speed up that day when all of God’s children, black men and white men, Jews and Gentiles, Protestants and Catholics, will be able to join hands and sing in the words of the old Negro spiritual, "Free at last! free at last! thank God Almighty, we are free at last!"”

60,000 Brides in Chicago

There are 60,000 brides getting ready for their weddings in Chicago at any one given time. And I believe every single one of them was at the Bridal Expo I attended yesterday. The place was PACKED! I could hardly breathe. I still need to find a florist and a photographer, so at the last minute I decided to go. I’ve also been doing a lot of research online, but I don’t think I’m any closer to finding either one. We’ll see. The photographer is my top priority right now. Those are my memories. And for those of you that know me, you know I have an AWFUL memory. So I need to get a photographer that captures my day, every little detail, every little emotion, so that anyone can see the pictures and know what a great day it was for me.

Saw the Golden Globes yesterday. What in the hell was Lara Flynn Boyle wearing? She made Bjork’s swan dress look normal. I mean, the outfit is cute and everything, if you’re playing ballerina dressup for your boyfriend, but to wear at a formal event like that? I dunno. Other than that, everyone else looked gorgeous!

I have GOT to watch Chicago. Man. I loved the musical, and it looks like Catherine Zeta Jones, Renee Zellweger and Richard Gere make an awesome ensemble. I just need to get my lazy ass out and get to a theater. Congrats to them winning their Golden Globes. And I love with Gere said at the end of his speech, ‘And I’d like to thank my wife, who taught me how to smile.’ Everybody now! ‘AWWWWWWWWWWW’
