Comicon Sketches

Here's the sketches I've gotten done by various artists from the conventions I've been to. One of my goals is to get sketches of Psylocke, my favorite (though dead) character. Some people I felt comfortable asking, some not, but these are all beautiful pieces of work! You'll find works here by Michael Turner, Humberto Ramos, Ale Garza, Tone Rodriguez, Talent Caldwell, and others. Feel free to leave a comment!

This was one of my first Psylocke sketches, done by Luke Lizalde (Objective Five, Mac Afro). It's also one of my favorites. He's doesn't do comics anymore, he's moved on to bigger, better things. This is one of my favorites.		This is another Psylocke done by Luke Lizalde. He's a pretty cool guy, and we've actually kept in touch over the years.
Here's a really awesome Psylocke by Karl Moline (Route 666, Fray). As with most of the creators, he was really friendly, and he did this sketch for me, even though it was a Marvel character, and he wasn't doing Marvel at the time.		This moody Psylocke was done by Bart Sears (The Path). The great thing about CrossGen was that at cons their artists were always happy to do a sketch, and if you get in line, you're pretty much guaranteed one.
One of my favorite creators is Tone Rodriguez (Alien vs. Predator, Violent Messiahs). He's great to chat with, cool as hell, and is gives the best hugs! I always look forward to seeing him at a convention.		I've always been a fan of Humberto Ramos' (Crimson, Spiderman) work, so I was thrilled to get a Psylocke sketch from him. I've admired him since I first saw him at a convention panel, talking about how much he appreciates the fans.
I've got a cute Jim Cheung story. A father with his kid were ahead of me in line and asked for a sketch. The little boy was curious, so Jim gave him a paper and pen and the little boy was sketching at the same time as Jim. It was the cutest thing!		This Psylocke was done by Vampi artist Kevin Lau, and I love the anime look she has. Very different from the others!
When I asked Ale Garza (Gen13, Batgirl, Ninja Boy) to do a sketch of Psylocke for me, he thought for a second, then asked, "That's the hot Asian ninja chick, right?" Right on, Ale, right on.		Kevin Sharpe (X-Treme X-Men) did his rendition of Psylocke for me. We talked about her death, and agreed with me that the X-World is a sadder place without her.
Another one of my favorites, done by Mark Brooks (Deadpool, Marvel Age Spiderman). He's another favorite creator, because he we talked for a bit and he was a really cool cat. I really hope he makes it big, because he deserves it!		This is definitely one of my top three, if not my favorite. When I asked some of the artists to draw Psylocke for me, a lot of them needed reference pictures or me to describe what she looked like. Talent Caldwell (Superman, Fathom: Dawn of War) just went to the side and spent a good amount of time working on this, but he didn't need any reference. Hope he gets to do X-Men one day, because he knows his stuff!
One of my goals was to get a sketch of Psylocke by one of my favorite artists, Michael Turner (Fathom, Batman/Superman). I got this one at a book signing, and it was amazing how fast he did it, but how great it turned out!		This Psylocke was done by Ryan Odagawa (Fantastic Four). I know he'll complain about it because it was the first sketch he did that day, but I think it looks awesome. To make up for it, he also did a sketch of Princess from Battle of the Planets for me.
I can tell that Sean Cheeks (Venom) is a jokester. I asked him for a Psylocke, and he drew this one for me, in a matter of about 30 seconds. I looked at it, said a polite thank you, and he proceeded to tell me it was crap and he didn't put his heart into it. He promised that his project for the night was to do another one. He asked me what I wanted in it. I said "Psylocke, a hippo and a bow"		The next morning, Sean was finishing this one up. I think it's the cutest Psylocke I have, and it's one of my favorites. He was able to incorporate everything in there.
I saw Sean at another convention, and this time around, I didn't even ask for a sketch - he offered it. So he did this Psylocke for me, using his own hand as a model.		I went to a really small local convention, and I got this SWEET sketch of Psylocke from Gene Ha, who has done covers for Superman. He really put a lot of time and effort into this, and it shows!
This great rendition of Psylocke was done by Michael Goodman, who has his own comic out called "The Ciderview Project". It's great stuff, and if you ever see him at a 'con, pick up the book and check it out! Not only is he a great artist and writer, but a really nice guy who currently is looking for a girlfriend.		Michael Goodman actually had this sketch ready for me when I was at a convention. I told him I collected sketches of Psylocke, and he presented me with this awesome present!
I saw Chris Moreno (Dracula Vs. King Arthur) draw at a CBLDF (Comic Book Legal Defense Fund) sketch duel, and I loved his stuff. So I came by the booth and he did this cool sketch for me, complete with my name on it!		I can just picture this Psylocke by Chris Giarrusso (Bullpen Bits, G-Man) as a little doll or something, she's just so adorable, and she's ready for action!
I love the art of Art Balthazar. Patrick the Wolfboy is one of the cutest comics out there, and if you ever see him at a show, check out his stuff, it'll make you laugh and it will definitely make you buy something of his. Here's his fun and free Psylocke, done in pen and crayon. You don't see that often at a show!		Sean Chen (Wolverine, X-Men: The End) was the very first artist to draw me a sketch at a convention, many moons ago. So I couldn't miss a chance to get a sketch from him, even if it cost me. However, I didn't realize that I had underpaid him (I thought he just did a head sketch), so next time I see him, he'll definitely get the money I owe him, because this sketch is worth it and more!
Usually I don't like paying for sketches, since I'm usually broke, but in this case, it was definitely for a good cause - ACTOR ( Arists Committed To Our Roots) a charity for comic book artists. Mike Mayhew (Vampirella) did a great job on this one - Betsy's got fantastic cheekbones!		Skottie Young is starting to be a big name, headlining this little convention that I went to. I had wanted to get a sketch from him once before, but there wasn't time, but since the next convention I went to was a small one, I was able to get this beauty.
This sketch of Psylocke was actually sent in to me by my friend Pat Loika, who's working on his own comic called 'Path to Armageddon'. If you ever see it out on the shelves, go out and buy it - he's great!		This sketch was done by Amanda Rachels who was raising money for an Alzheimer's charity. I love this picture and she's an incredible artist. I loved this one so much I colored it.

Other Sketches

My friend Mike Wellman introduced me to Rafael Navarro (Sonambulo) and he asked me what I wanted a sketch of. Since his book is about Mexican wrestlers, I asked for a female Mexican wrestler - 'Sonambula' Here's Tone Rodriguez (Violent Messiahs) again, with a lovely sketch of Scalpel, from the Violent Messiahs books.

This is my very first Michael Turner (Fathom, Soulfire) sketch. I was in line for him to sign my comics, and he noticed my thumb ring, which had waves on it. He asked to try it on, and got it stuck on his finger. After we pried it off, he did this sketch for me for my trouble. Michael Turner was doing an appearance at a local comic shop and I walked out with this pretty sketch of Aspen.

Damion Scott (Batgirl) was the artist that brought me into the series, so instead of asking for Psylocke, I asked for the character that he did best, Batgirl. One thing I loved about CrossGen is that their artists were so accessible for sketches. I got this beautiful one of Sephie from Steve McNiven (Meridian, Marvel Knights)

This is hands down the CUTEST sketch in my collection. I was looking through Art Balthazar's (Patrick the Wolf Boy) work and I loved one he did of Professor X. I asked him to do a quick one for me and he threw in the vampire fangs for fun. I brought my sketchbook into work one day and inspired my coworker, Abie Vasquez to do something for me. To this day I've had many artists look at this piece of art and remark on how great it is - little do they know that this guy doesn't do comics....yet.

This is one of my first sketches, from Eric J (Rex Mundi). He was one of the first people in the business that actually took the time to talk to me about comics. This was around the time when his comic first came out, and I'm really happy that it's been so successful. This is a self portrait of Liz Brizzi, who worked for Top Cow and Aspen comics. She was such an awesome person to know and we'll miss her much. Usually she's behind the scenes, but I decided to ask her to do something in my sketchbook to remember her by. Little did I know that she had so much talent!

Ryan Odagawa (Fantastic Four) felt bad that his Psylocke was crappy, so he did another sketch of Princess from Battle of the Planets. She was my favorite character when I was a kid! This sketch was given to me by Pat. It's Sephie by Josh Middleton (NYX), before he left the company to work on other comics.
