Screen Resolution? Browser? Screen Resolution? Browser?
I know I've asked this already, but I know I have new readers since I last asked, and some of you may have upgraded since the last time. Anyway, what screen resolution are you using? To check your screen resolution, just right click on your desktop, go to properties, and then click on 'Settings'. You'll see something that says 'Screen Resolution'. The reason I ask this is because I want to make sure that people who are using lower resolutions can see the designs I make. I usually design using a 1024x768 template, but I try and make sure that the people who are using 800x600 are able to see it, too. However, that makes it a lot harder to come up with cool designs. Also, I'd like to know what browsers y'all are using. My stats report it, but I get a lot of miscellaneous traffic so the results are skewed. That's also very important because I want to make sure I test for the browsers that people are using. I normally use firefox and one of my biggest internet peeves is when I go to a site that is poorly designed in FireFox. Just because it works nicely in Internet Explorer doesn't mean that it's gonna look great in FireFox! I'm also curious to see if any of you out there are using other browsers. I don't have access to them, but I'd love to use you as a beta tester for designs! Anyway, thanks for the help...your input makes YWIM a better place to be! Posted by Yano at 11:12 PM

What Would You Do? What Would You Do?
[edited below, 4:37 CT] Here's a scenario, let me know what you would do in this situation. Later today I'll tell you what I did... Let's say you're waiting for a bus to the train station. There are a lot of people on your stop to get on. You get on the bus, which was empty before your stop, and find yourself a comfortable seat. As you're getting off the bus at the train stop, a young woman taps you on the shoulder, pointing at the ground. "There's a five dollar bill by your feet," she says, continuing with, "I don't know if it's yours or not, but if it isn't, Happy Holidays!" Then she walks away. Of course, the money isn't yours, nor by its position on the ground was it dropped by anyone else who was on the bus as you got on. Do you leave the money on the ground? Do you pick it up and keep it? Do you pick it up and find the girl and give it to her, since she's the one who found it in the first place? There's no right or wrong answer, but I debated over the answer for a while...but I'm curious to see what you guys would have done. ----- What I Did I was the girl who gave the money to the guy. I got on the bus, and I KNEW that the money wasn't his, because he came in after me and there was no way that he dropped it. During the whole bus ride I debated on just waiting til he got off the bus to take the money. But then it would have looked like I knew that he dropped the money and that I was stealing it. Then I debated on asking him if he dropped it, and if he said no, then to take the money myself. I started imagining all the wonderful things I would buy with that $5 - White Chocolate Mochas at Starbucks, ice cream at Ben and Jerry's, etc. But then I felt bad and greedy, and knew that if this guy just looked around, he'd see it. It was under his seat, so in a weird way, he had first dibs on it. So I decided to tell him about the money. If it was meant to be mine, then he would stop me as I slowly walked down the street (and I DID walk slow, let me tell ya) and tell me that I deserved the money. But it never happened. What became of that $5? Did it go to charity? Was it used for the next days lunch? Was it invested? Is it riding the hip of a strippers g-string as we speak? I'll never know. Dammit, I should have taken it for myself! Damn this conscience of mine!!! Posted by Yano at 04:32 AM

Gas Prices? Gas Prices?
Look at this Master Foley is doing a second stint as a guest poster at YWIM while Miss Yano is on vacation. Everyone should know by now Yano was the one who inadvertently sparked my interesting blogging, so it's the coolest thing to be able to post on her blog. I have to ask what the deal is with me getting goofy antennas on my icon but I guess is better looking than Aquaman's rabbit. I thought I would talk about the rising gas prices. I walked by the TV in the break room that is always playing CNN. They reported that the national average is $2.52. It's 2.59 in Richmond, KY. I just asked a friend of mine that lives in Long Beach what the prices where. She said the prices were $2.63. Kentucky has alway been well below the national average on gas prices. Now we almost have the same prices as CA. WTF? I did some very light research and found that the yearly average increase of gas prices is between $.10 and $.30. It has climbed almost a dollar in the past six months here in KY. It is getting real painful to fill the tank up every time. I'm glad I car pool to work. Just last week I filled up for $2.15 I believe and like I said it's $2.59 this morning. Something has to be done about this. Did any of that make sense? Anywho have PIMPIN good time. OK, I think that's all... I'm going home today! Yay! Posted by Yano at 07:38 AM

Music to My Ears Music to My Ears
I've been shopping at this local seafood market by my house, which carries fresh fish. It always has great deals on catfish and salmon, two of my favorite fish. An idea came to me the other day, which I was surprised I never thought of before. I called, asked my question, and heard one of the most wonderful sentences I've ever heard (right next to Dave's "I do"): "Why yes, mam, the salmon we sell here is sushi grade. We also have sushi grade tuna and swordfish." Bulk sushi, here I come! YUM! Posted by Yano at 04:42 PM

Conversation Over Free Frosties Conversation Over Free Frosties
This was a snippet of our conversation over our free frosties at Wendy's. I look out the window and see some seagulls fighting over some leftover food. Me: What are seagulls doing over here? We're in the suburbs. We're not even near a lake or any body of water. Yeah. Those frosties. They do something to ya. Posted by Yano at 12:18 AM

So I'll let you guys decide - which of the following would you like to see as a photo gallery first? Animals The one with the most votes wins! Posted by Yano at 03:19 PM

Guinea Pigs Needed! Guinea Pigs Needed!
I'm going to be changing around this site a bit, and I need some people to be beta testers. Anyone out there interested on doing some testing for me at the end of the week? I'm looking for people who use unusual browsers (Firefox, Opera), who are on dial-up, or who are at unusual screen resolutions (800x600) etc. Interested? Comment or email me at kwannon-at-gmail(dot)com. Posted by Yano at 02:16 AM

Chatting with the Opposite Sex Chatting with the Opposite Sex
I was thinking that this year I'd have a little more audience interaction. It was fun when we had those little ¿yano asks a question? sessions before. So I'll present a question/situation, and you give your two cents on it. Try to read the question first and think of your gut answer, then read the conditions I put afterward and see if it changes your answer at all. Sounds like fun? Yes! So today's topic is chatting/instant messaging. Namely, would it be appropriate for you to chat with someone of the opposite sex if you're currently in a relationship? What if it was late at night? I'll give my answer here tomorrow. Posted by Yano at 09:36 AM

What I need from you faithful Yanowhatimean readers is suggestions on where to go next. I get more vacation time with this new company and I want somewhere cool to go to. Tell where to go and why. Tell me the cool, secret, off the beaten path places to visit. I want to know about kick ass restaurants, festivals and events I shouldn't miss. Tell me Tell me Tell me!!! Image Editor Query Image Editor Query
Quick question for y'all out there. Who's got Photoshop? What version? If not, then what do you use for your image editing? The reason I ask is because I'm going to continue with my tips and tricks, but I have a feeling that a lot of them are going to be Photoshop-centric, but I want to make sure that I make it as generic as possible for people who don't, but it all depends.... Screen Resolution Check! Screen Resolution Check!
I know I asked this before, but what's everyone's screen resolution? Anyone out there still on 800x600? (*ahem*Melinda*ahem*) My site stats don't report that to me, and I was thinking of doing some redesigning and I want to keep the lower resolution people in mind, but if there aren't a lot of you out there, well, I'll be keeping with the 1024x768. So if you're out there, let me know! Or feel free to talk about websites and screen resolutions in general... And to check your screen resolution, just right click on your desktop, go to properties, and then click on 'Settings'. You'll see something that says 'Screen Resolution'. :) Posted by Yano at 02:48 PM

Reader Survey Reader Survey
This is the very first yanowhatimean? reader survey. It has been brought to our attention the site is loading a bit slower than usual since we've implemented the latest template. So I had promised an investigation into this matter - is the site loading slower for you? Nothing annoys me more than a slow loading site, but since I'm on DSL, it's hard for me to test the site speed. Are there any other things that you're running into on the site that you'd like to improve/change? We here at yanowhatimean (all one of us) care about giving you the best worktime wasting experience possible, even IF your name is Jones and you're hated by the wrestling community, race car drivers, pro surfers and many more. Every person counts. So tell me what you think! Posted by Yano at 09:47 PM

For The Goddess in You For The Goddess in You
Still in Thousand Oaks. Bored as hell. Posting a picture of this...just because. ![]() There is also the original Icy Blue one, though I myself prefer the Passion Pink one. It makes me feel like a woman. Did you ever notice that feminine razors have really feminine names? Like Daisy, Intuition or Venus? Just an observation. FYI - I'm not posting this because I've just shaved my legs. Actually, I'm going for the Chewbacca look this winter. I'm sure you wanted to know that, and I don't care if it's not going to get me any dates. I'm married. Anyone wanna have a shaving discussion? I'm sure it would be quite interesting. *snicker* Posted by Yano at 07:11 PM

Here's another ¿Yano Asks You a Question? It's a little more involved than the previous ones. Feel free to write an essay. What was the best moment of 2003 for you? On a side note, I'm so proud that I know how to do the upside down questionmark. How do I do this remarkable feat, you ask? Well, I hold down the Alt key and hit 0191. Poof! ¿Screen Resolution? ¿Screen Resolution?
This is the first ever installment of Yano Asks You A Question. My first question for you is something I've been wondering about, since I moved up from my 800x600 screen resolution on my old laptop to a whopping 1400x1050 on my new one. It actually gives me a warning if I try to make it any smaller than that. Most of the pictures on this site are 400x300 and they look tiny on my new machine... There's an actual purpose to this. On a lower resolution, some of the formatting is weird on this page. So, what screen resolution are you guys working on? 640x480 Don't know? Take a guess. Have no fear, future installments of Yano Asks You a Question will be much more exciting than this! Posted by Yano at 03:27 PM
