My #1 New Year's resolution last year was to lose at least 20lbs of the baby weight that I still have left over. I was pretty good for the first week of the year, but having to take care of the baby and working at night when the baby sleeps has left me little time to work out. Add to that the fact that I have no self control when it comes to late night snacks and food that tastes good. Also, whenever I travel it's hard for me to just get a salad when there's a whole menu of foods I've never tried before.
But I still want to work on it. What I plan to do (which probably won't happen, but putting it in here will give it a higher chance of happening) is wake up a little earlier for work when I'm working at home, and go on the elliptical for at least 15 minutes, for my "commute" to work. When I'm done, another 15 minutes for my "commute" home.
I guess another reason this is so hard for me to do (which is a reason why weight loss is a problem for a lot of other people) is that I never had a problem with my weight growing up. I was a thin little thing and never had to worry about what I ate, so I pretty much ate whatever I wanted. In college I was still pretty slim, and walking to and from class, as well as demanding fashion show practices (not as glamorous as it sounds, trust me) and football practices kept me moving. Really, the only time I started gaining weight was about 2-3 years out of college, which was when my metabolism probably started slowing down and my eating habits started to catch up with me. When I got married I was the heaviest I had been at any time before that. That's when I learned that stress makes me eat.
So I've learned bad food habits, and never found that high people get when they work out. I just find it to be boring.
But I've got to get over that if I ever want to fit into my old clothes. I'm tired of having nothing to wear or having to go out and buy clothes for special occasions because I have nothing that looks flattering on me.
We'll see what happens. I'll keep you posted!
Posted by Yano at January 29, 2007 12:40 PMYou should try Winsor Pilates (winsorpilates.com) that's what I do since I can't live at the gym like I used to. It's really good, and it stretches you slim! =)

Posted by: on January 29, 2007 06:09 PMTed consultated a nutritionist in the spring and here are some tips: white (bread, rice etc.) will put weight on fast. Ditch it. Cut starch in favor of veggies and lean meats. Eat five small meals a day...carrots and hummus are good morning snacks. Always balance carbs with protein, i.e. nuts with fruit When I abandonned my beloved bagel and cream cheese for breakfast in favor of Kashi Go Lean cereal and soy milk I lost 5 lbs. And walk every time you can rather than sit! Wait, just wait till Ben is 18 months and all over the place :)
Posted by: SusanG on January 29, 2007 07:02 PMI know how hard it is to lose that post pregnancy weight. What helped me most was watching what I ate. I took Oprah's advice to not eat after 7pm (except those rare occasions that I go out). It's hard at first but you'll get use to it. I think it's almost impossible to cut yourself off completely with what you're used to like rice, pasta. But small portion is the key. And try to cut down on the sweets. Ice cream is my weakness, so that was a challenge. It's ok if you slip once in a while but not all the time. I know how hard it is to work out with kids around but try to squeeze in 30 min/day for some type of exercise. I would do Pilates or that workout Guru Gilad from fitness channel. He made me lose weight fast! I'm doing those 30 min workout again 'cause I'm seeing some weight gain after breatfeeding. But most important is the diet and self-control. You'll lose it eventually. Maybe we'll never get to that college weight but at least lose that darn post preg weight. Don't worry. YOU CAN DO IT!!!
Posted by: Jane on January 29, 2007 10:23 PMYou should really check out this new book Oprah's pushing by Bob Greene, The Best Life Diet. It's really good. I LOVE it, and it's pretty easy. At least I think it is. Plus, there's a website you can join for not too much that keeps you connected with people and "in check". You don't really have to join a gym, or anything like that. It gives you practical ideas of how to exercise and how to eat when you're travelling, too. Late night snacking really is the worst thing, tho. WATER WATER WATER, also. I know it's not fun, but it's the only way. Remember your health. We all love you and want to see your extra hot self again. *wink wink* hahaha
Posted by: Texx on January 30, 2007 01:03 PMI hear ya! My running has slowed down since it's gotten so cold outside. That not having a weight issue is a tough thing because I'm the same boat. Not knowing how to eat is a hard thing to learn after that metabolism slows down!
Posted by: Irene on January 30, 2007 08:19 PMYou know, I've been reading up on this book lately.
