15lbs to Go, Well, 30 Actually

I gained about 50lbs when I was pregnant with Be-bop. The doctor said I should have only gained 35, but hey, I found pregnancy as a free pass to eat everything I wanted to.

So now I'm paying for it. After having Ben I lost about 10lbs, and found that the next 15lbs melted away easily. I thought that losing my pregnancy weight would be a breeze. But then it stalled after about 25lbs. I had to actually watch what I was eating, yet eat enough to make sure I had the nutrients for breastfeeding. Of course, that's easier said than done. It was hard for me to get out of my pregnant eating habits.

I was able to lose another 10lbs in the last two months which in most cases is great, but I'm still 15lbs away from my pre-pregnancy weight. Which was actually 15lbs over my target weight. So I'm 30lbs away from my goal. I was already overweight when I got pregnant so I'd love to lose that weight, too.

So I am now on a mission. I'm not going to go on a crazy diet or anything, but I'm definitely going to up my exercise - scratch that - I'm going to START exercising. That, and cutting back on the sweets and fatty foods. Maybe have a salad here and there. I'm not going to buy new clothes, either, to fit my 4 sizes larger body. Being stuck wearing my old maternity pants, t-shirts and long skirts is going to push me to get rid of this extra weight faster.

I know it's not going to be an easy journey, and the weight isn't going to fall off as quickly as it did the first several weeks after I had Ben. But I've gotta start somewhere. With the horrible family medical history I have I really need to start watching myself. Diabetes is just around the corner, I'm at a higher risk for breast cancer because my mom had it...

Wish me luck!

Good luck on the weight loss. You're being smart by exercising and making changes to what you eat without going on a whacky diet.
It will be a challenge, but well worth it in the end.

Who knows, maybe you can run with Claudine!

Good luck! My bestfriend dropped after she had her baby last year and it was a struggle but she did it cause she was determined.

Fresh tuna sashimi everyday will do it...and lay off the Filipino food! Well, maybe you can have some of the Filipino ice creams.

you never looked overweight when i saw you, pre-pregnancy.

i say do Pilates... there's a new Winsor Pilates regimen... where you use this ring thing...

http://www.winsorpilates.com/

i need to get back into doing that, too... now that i'm working at home, i've gotten really lazy :P (then again, i was still lazy before i started working from home)

AMEN, sista! it took me 15 months before i actually started to actively try and lose the weight!

you just have to find the one exercise/eating regimen that fits your needs. mine? i will swear by tae-bo every time!!!! AND it's only a 20-30 minute workout. shall i copy a tape for you? lol

Rule #1: No Taste of Chicago for you this year!!! Avoid it like the plague. You'll be saving money, and the poundage you'll gain from having lunch there.

Trisha - Claudine moved to Detroit! I should make a post about that, huh?

Kat - I have a pilates dvd that I've never opened. It will get opened sometime next week.

Thanks, "Tita Chariya"

Mike - Luckily I'm still on leave so I'm not downtown to coordinate a Taste of Chicago get together.

Yano, Ted is on a diet per the nutritionist and the key, she says, is frequent small meals. No "hi glycemic" index stufff like white bread and potatoes. Lots of salsds, fresh fruit, yoghurt, vegetables. It's easeir to start now rather than when you're our age! And I found that I didn't lose all the weight untiil I stopped nursing. Exercise and smaller portions at your young age ought to do the trick! :)

Hi Yano! I have been on a diet since january and though I have had my rough spots, Ive found that my high protein/ low sugar meals have really helped me loose my 15 or so pounds. Good Luck!! Remember, once you start running around Be-Bop, weight wont be a problem :)

Good Luck Christine.
I had the same problem (gained 50 lbs w/ first baby) and never did go back to pre-pregnancy weight. However in those days people just kind of accepted the extra weight as normal.

It is good you are starting now and besides eating right, exercise is really important. Also, remember not to go on any starvation diets or anything. The best thing to do is find something you can stick to in the long term for gradual weight loss and maintenence.

Holy cow! I hear ya sister!! I am now at the six week mark after having the baby...and my doc. appt. is on Thurs. I hope he will give me the go ahead to start exercising again! I hate being FAT! I think I have a good 20 lbs. to go. I will find out at the appt. when I am weighed. (I stopped weighing myself at home half way through the pregnancy..so I don't know what I have left to lose.) But, good luck! You can do it!!
