Packing My Bags...

So I've been packing my pregnancy bag for the last couple days....the bag that I'll be bringing to the hospital with me when I go into labor. I've read books and stuff like that with suggestions on what to bring, but I'd love to hear your opinions. I've already got some stuff in there based on what my friends and relatives told me. Here's what I have so far:

- Socks
- "Going Home" clothes for me
- Sleeping clothes
- Breath mints (if Dave's face is gonna be in my face during the delivery, we're going to have the freshest breath ever)
- Nursing pads
- Nursing bra (well, once I buy one)
- Fuzzy slippers
- Video Camera and tapes (we're not going to tape the birth but I'd love to get a lot of vids afterwards)
- Batteries for video camera and regular camera
- Pony tail holders
- Baby's going home outfit (I'm going to bring several and let him choose)
- Toothbrush and toothpaste
- Shampoo, conditioner and soap
- Q-Tips (I'm a Q-Tip freak)
- Snacks to munch on
- Pillow
- Notebook and pen to write down what I'm gonna tell you guys ;-)
- Lip balm
- Book
- Home made CD - "Childbirth Jams 2006" Of course, I haven't made it yet because I'm trying to decide what music to put on it. I was thinking of songs that bring back good memories, but I don't know if I want my baby born to "Bootie Call"...

I doubt I've got it all, and I'd rather overpack than underpack...

Any suggestions?

hairbrush, underwear, sanitary pads.
From experience, never ask your husband to buy you bigger underwear, when I sent my husband, he asked for the biggest that they had, and what he brought me could have fit an elephant. The thought was kind, but i almost busted a stitch when he showed me what he bought. And sanitary pads. You may like a preferred size or brand, rather than the standard hospital given that are monstrous. If I actually fit the elephant underwear, the hospital pads would have fit wonderfully.
good luck.

I second with hairbursh, lotion, cell phone charger, sanitary pads (the thick kind), and I'm adding flip-flops for the hospital room shower. Trust me - you will be happy that you brought them!

Book?!!

What are gonna use that for, a door stop?

Once that kid pops out, you'll have to read People magazine with a book mark.

How about a box of cigars and some Giordano's?

Well, they may give you sanitary pads at the hospital but it doesn't hurt to bring some of your own. Extra absorbent, of course. Also shampoo and all those toiletries so you can take a shower afterwards. As for the pillow, if you have a Boppy or some other nursing pillow that helps as well if you're gonna breastfeed/bottle feed.

Well, I never did this so I don't know from experience, but I would think you would want to take your address book with telephone numbers to call family and friends.

Eeee, almost time! If you need sanitary pads, wouldn't you be cramping too? I'm sure the hospital probably has one, but what about heating pads?

Bring your own robe! You'll feel better.

How about a moving truck? So you can just take everything! ;p Better safe, than sorry, hehe.

When you do get up and walking you will be sore so your footing might not be the best. The fuzzy slippers might not be the best to walk in. I would hate for you to slip and fall.

What about some bubbly...not for you yet of course but for everyone else, you can get the non alcoholic kind...I know my best friend brought in some for my first delivery and it was kinda cool. Moisturizer is a must, for face and body, you will need it!

Your blog is becoming very anti-male lately...just an observation.

haha j/k

i guess the song "Baby Got Back" is out of the question for your CD...

Don't forget your phone list. You can't forget who you're gonna call.

Oh, and it's so nice of you to let him choose his own outfit from the beginning. Let him be himself!!! hahaha

If you have a baby "memory book", be sure and take it so that the nurses can ink stamp his little footprints into it. They can do that at the same time they do the "official" prints.

Make sure your robe, nightgown, and clothing are nursing friendly---i.e. buttons or zippers or open front.

Things that pull over your head then have to be pulled up to your neck to nurse. I made that mistake.

everything has pretty much already been said. if you wear contacts/ glasses, don't forget all the paraphenalia for that as well. be sure to have Dave pack his OWN bag, like with a change of clothes, toothbrush, and the likes! a beanie for the lil man, his noggin will be cold. a receiving blanket or 2. i liked the "napkins" from the hospital b/c they were nice and big. lest we forget that you haven't had a montly reminder that you can bear children for the past 9 months, so it'll be quite heavy! an outif tor the lil bubs to take his first official photo in before they let him go home with you. be sure to take home the peri-bottle from the hospital as well. i loved that thing!!! it's for you, not the baby, and it'll help with washing the lady parts as you're not even supposed to wipe down there for a bit. the peribottle is a squeezable water bottle with numerous holes. it's great to use for the kids bath after you're done with it. if i can think of anything else i'll be sure to let you know.
