Grammy Recap

I watched a bit of the Grammy awards yesterday, but not the whole thing, since "LOST" was on during the telecast. All in all, it was an OK show, with a couple great performances and it seemed to move pretty quickly (though I wouldn't know since I was switching channels through the whole thing...) Here's a couple of my highlights:

- I was really looking forward to the Gorillaz/Madonna opening performance. The Gorillaz looked cool in their 3D incarnations, and I just can't get that Madonna song outta my head. But I wish they had more interaction, but I don't know how open Madonna would be to actually performing with someone who wasn't there.

- I think my favorite performance of the night was the Kanye West performance. He definitely didn't disappoint, and as long as you have a marching band and a drumline in your performance, you'll be my #1 performance of the night. Kanye entertained me all night long, with his Michael Jackson-like gloves and shirt unbuttoned down-to-there.

- There didn't seem to be any huge winners last night, everything seemed pretty spread out. I was waiting for Kanye to throw a hissy-fit when he lost for Album of the Year to U2, but Bono did a stand up thing and actually went up to Kanye and shook his hand before coming up on stage to accept their award. Kanye surprised me by actually looking happy for Bono when he won. I dunno, we'll see in the papers today if Kanye has anything to say about it! I hope he just keeps his mouth shut for this one time. But Kanye, if you're reading this, let me tell ya - I think your album was better. But I don't vote for the Grammy's so that means pretty much nothing!

- I'm really liking John Legend. He has a kind face and he sounds like a good guy.

- I was switching channels from the Grammys and switched back to this young, tall woman singing with Adam and Maroon Five. I was wondering, "Did they pick up a new female singer? She's gorgeous! She has awesome legs!!!" Then I realized it was rnb singer Ciara. Damn, that girl looks good! I think she looks much better with black hair than as a lighter brunette. Thing is, you could tell that she felt her skirt was too short because she could hardly move up there. But hey, her legs went on for miles and miles!

- 10 years ago, if you asked Paul McCartney if he'd be singing "Yesterday" on stage with a rapper in his ear going "UH! UH!" and a rock group who had a hit with the line, "Shut up with I'm talking to you!" he'd probably call you crazy and kick you in the balls. But yesterday he sang his old tune with Linkin Park and Jay-Z and I have to say....it was pretty good. Really weird, but pretty good.

- Kelly Clarkson is such a cutie. Unfortunately, this means 10 more years of American Idol.

- Second best performance of the night? U2 and Mary J. Blige. Man, when Mary's feeling it, she's FEELING it. She blows my mind with her powerful performances.

- I would never have said this 4 years ago, but lately Christina Aguilera has really been outclassing Britney Spears and Jessica Simpson. She looked fabulous out there in her white dress, red lipstick and platinum blonde hair. Her voice is still amazing, too. Yesterday she transcended being just a singer to having her voice be a musical instrument, merging so wonderfully with Herbie Hancock's (where have you been, Herbie?!?!) piano.

- I didn't catch much of Mariah's performance, but is it me, or was she totally lip-synching?

- Gwen Stefani looks amazing for being so pregnant. Bitch. :-P

Hmm...that's about all I remember from the Grammys. Do you guys have any memorable moments?

I didn't see all of it, but Kanye's performance with Jamie Foxx kicked ass! I also thought he was gonna throw a hissy fit when he lost to U2...
There was an all star performance joining Sly Stone, who i guess was a legend 20yrs ago... Um i think it was a deskjockey idea - coz Sly came out for like a few minutes AND left before the song was even over.
Christina Aguilera's voice alone commanded respect from her very beginning. She blows away all the other pop chicks in her category. Kid can sing.

I only caught it in the second half, so I missed gthe opening. Sounds like it was great. Kelly Clarkson was adorable! :) I did see Kanye, and his performance with J. Foxx was great. Mariah looks like a ballooon - what happened to her!?

I was very impressed with Aguilera. With news of her ol' rival driving around with a baby in the driver's seat... I did give the same kind of reaction that Christina is moving on well in her own right.

Kanye/Jamie were awesome! And, I almost liked the Mary J/U2 version of One, but I think I was already tired of the whole cross-breeding acts by the time Paul McCartney came out to sing with Jay-Z and Linkin Park. WTF?

Hi Yano. For once, I actually stayed awake through the whole show. To me, it was one of the better Grammy shows in a long time, with many memorable performances. I especially liked John Legend, Kanye West & Jamie Foxx, and Kelly Clarkson. Paul McCartney performed well and did a rousing version of Helter Skelter. U2 was great, as usual, but Mary J. Blige was a little off this time. Mariah was OK but not at her best. The Sly Stone tribute was great, with Sly himself making a cameo appearance. Christina Aguilera does sing circles around Britney and Jessica. She just needs to stop wearing tons of makeup. :)

Overall it was a great show.

I still don't know what the big deal is with Mary J. Blige. She "sings" like an "American Idol" contestent. Then there's JayZ. Another in a long line of hip hop "artists" who gets paid millions by just blurting out "uh-huh"'s and "yeah" throughout a song. The only good thing from the Grammys was Sir Paul singing The Beatles' classic "Helter Skelter". They should've added the White Stripes in yesterday's line-up.
