Thanksgiving Preparations

This year, we're having Dave's family over for Thanksgiving.

I'm not talking about his parents and brother. I'm talking about the whole Dave family clan. Well, a lot of them - some of them had other plans already. I don't know if we'll beat the numbers of the annual Yano family Christmas, but it will be close.

This isn't an annual thing for them, I guess they used to have an annual thing, but haven't had one for a while. We were at a family party once and people were mentioning how they haven't seen our new house yet, and all of the sudden, we're hosting Thanksgiving!

Not that I mind. You all know that I have shindigs here all the time. But this is the first time that I'm hosting something for Dave's side of the fam, so I'm a bit nervous. That, and when I had my Labor Day party I told everyone I wasn't having parties anymore (because at the time I knew I was pregnant). Dave's on call today, so he won't be home to help with the preparations, not that he does a lot of good in terms of the cooking aspect of the parties anyway. He did clean the house from top to bottom last weekend, so that's done.

So I've been trying to think of what to have on our menu for tomorrow. Luckily, Dave's mom volunteered to do the turkey and bring over some other dishes. I've never done a turkey and not sure that I have the time.

I think I've got some pretty tasty dishes lined up:

  • Salmon baked with Basil and Herbs
  • 7 layer taco dip (i don't know if there will be seven layers, but there will be a lot)
  • Bruschetta
  • Lasagna
  • Brownies
  • Pudding and dirt (usually my dirt and worms for Halloween, but I'll put a Thanksgiving twist on it)
  • Weinie wraps
  • Gravy and mashed potatoes
  • Stuffing

Hmm, I hope that's enough. I haven't started making any of it yet, but I'm planning on getting some of the stuff together tonight so I don't have to do as much tomorrow morning. Luckily, my sisters are coming over to help out so I'm not alone and I don't freak out.

But I'm excited. It should be a fun time, once all the food is done and everyone is eating and in a food coma and we're watching movies on our huge TV.

What are you all doing for Turkey Day?

All of our children and grandchildren will be here. It will be a fun time.

Sounds like you have a fantastic menu planned. I'm sure your guests will all contribute too.

    Have a wonderful Thanksgiving!

I'll be at Doug's grandparents' house. I'm in charge of sodas and a fruit plate. They know better than to give me something that requires cooking. Thanksgiving is my favorite holiday and after all that's happened since last year at this time I have a lot to be thankful for so I'm looking forward to tomorrow.

Sounds nice. This time of year I so wish I had a big family!! Have fun and good luck with the cooking!

I'm getting a plane tomorrow morning for Minnesota. My body doesn't know what time zone it's supposed to be in anymore. :-P

I think you have enough, but...um...where are the veggies? I know you don't like them, but, now that you're pregnant, they're IMPORTANT.

    Um, potatoes aren't veggies?

    :-P

?Sweet Potatoe Souffle? Green bean casserole? A nice bottle of Gewurtztraimer for the adults, sparkling cider for the children. The salmon sounds delicious! Hey...pumpkin is a veggie :) Sounds like a great feed Yano, and you're great to do so much cooking for a crowd!

Oh...Gillian is coming home from school, Ted's friend from the and his three (not so little girls) are coming...Gillian was their baby sitter. And another friend from Ted's office is coming. I'd be hard pressed to seat more than 8 in our small dining room. I too wish I had a large famly...and Grandchildren! Lucky Sue :) :)

Oh I'm a little late, but you forgot cranberry sauce! :) Hubby and I are going over to his brothers and sister-in-laws. I believe there will be 14 or 15 people there including my Marine nephew who just came home from Iraq! We have ton's to be thankful for this year. Hubby's brother at the age of 48 had a massive heart attack and bypass surgery (5 bypasses) in September. He is doing well now and is actually driving all ready! My nephew came home safely from Iraq, my hubby had been off work after falling 8 feet thru a ladder and hurting his back. He is fine now and back to work. My horse has been lame all summer and she is back to 98%. Yep it has been a challenging year at the Pridey house, but today, everything is well! May you and yours have a blessed day! Hugs to you all!

My sister had Thanksgiving this year, for the very first time. My mom still does all the holidays, even though all my siblings are married with houses of their own. I was so glad someone finally volunteered beause my mom shouldn't be doing it anymore. And also because when my mom has it, I have to help her. So I had a nice relaxing Thanksgiving for the first time ever! Except I ate too much, and now I feel icky. :(
