Looking for My Green Thumb

Yesterday I headed over to Mel's house for her dad's 60th birthday party. He was out golfing earlier in the day, and we were all starving so we didn't even bother to wait for him before we chowed down.

Hung out with the cousins, and Trully tried the pregnant lady guilt trip on the boys, asking them to get up boba shakes from the Village Creamery. We didn't think it worked, as they headed out to play pool, but lo and behold, we got a phonecall from them, at the Creamery, asking us for our drink order.

Had some fun talks with the girl cousins, talking about being pregnant, having kids, the not so glamorous parts of pregnancy and baby names. Trully didn't appreciate my submissions. I don't know what's wrong with the names 'Vader', 'Anakin', 'Dumbledore' or 'John Paul III'. They sound cool, don't they?

We also told some ghost stories, which made Trully's baby go all kung fu crazy, kicking in her stomach, which led her to tell us that we were scaring the baby. Then the doorbell rang, and I went to answer it, and there was no one there. That ended ghost story time. It was spooky!

Today we started on the garden. I've never had a garden before, so this will be an interesting experiment. Dave's dad came over to show us what to do, and next week we're going to be buying the flowers and crap. Today was the day to clear out all the old debris and get the soil ready for planting. I've got my fingers crossed, hoping that I can maintain a pretty garden and that everything doesn't die.

One of the trees on our lawn has started to flower, and it's so pretty! If one of you can tell me what kind of tree this is, I'd be grateful. I've got it written down somewhere, but I'm too lazy to look it up!

It looks like a Saucer Magnolia. Does that sound right?
