Still in the lovely state of Alaska - I'm sure you guys are totally sick of listening about my adventures here, so don't worry, I'm out of here tomorrow! But I will miss it, I admit. As much as there have been issues with my whole trip, there are still some really great things that I'm going to leave with.
It's been arining like cats and dogs here ever since Tuesday. I don't remember the last time I've seen so much rain! As much as I've found the rain to be dreary and preventing a lot of great photos for me, there has also a lot of been a lot of beauty. Since we're situated at the bottom of a mountain, there are waterfalls all along the mountain side of the main stretch of road here, being drained underneath the road. They're not big waterfalls, but to a city girl like me, they definitely look like them. I couldn't take any pictures because the road is a bit windy and I didn't want to get into an accident.
I was upset when I first learned that I was coming here that I would be going to such an interesting place, but wouldn't have any time to do any sightseeing because everything would be closed (or it would be dark) by the time I was done with work. But my contact here is SO awesome, she's played tour guide every day during lunch, taking me to all the different sites. She's even brought a raincoat for me so I don't get soaked during our adventures. Yesterday we went to a totem park along the coast, today we went up to Cape Fox to check out their mini-musem, as well as to another town where we saw some artists working in a totem pole workshop. I'll post up those pictures when I get home.
She has made my stay here so enjoyable, not only by taking me around the town, but also by just providing some great converstation while we're working. She's definitely the type of person who I'd be friends with outside the office. I was really touched when we met up with one of her friends at the totem workshop (she seems to know everyone here) and she introduced me as 'my new friend Christine, who's visiting from Chicago.' What a sweet heart! Everyone I've met here has been so friendly and cool, I wouldn't mind coming back here again.
So yeah, this trip isn't as bad as I thought it would be. My contact is a major factor in that, but I also realized that the torture I went through with my previous company has helped me to deal with adversity. But that's a post for another day!
