How Sweet It Is!

Just wanted to congratulate YWIM friend and reader Shani Davis (who calls this site 'fun and well organized') for winning the men's World Allround Speed Skating Championships in Russia this weekend.

When Shani made it evident that he was going to keep on going with short track and long track we all knew it would be tough, of not impossible, to do. We all thought that to excel, he had to choose one or the other. I'm glad to say that we were wrong, with all his successes in long track and constantly showing up in the top 10 for short track in the US. He's been a magnet for controversy, but through it all, he's let his performance speak for itself. He's a force to be reckoned with and there will be nothing to stop him from acheiving his goals.

Next goal: The Olympics - in BOTH short track and long track. I'd like to say 'fat chance', but I think you'd prove me wrong.

Great job, big guy! I owe you a deep dish pizza in the off season.

Nice write up on Shani, Yano. Good for him, and I think it's entirely possible for him to make both the long and short track Olympic teams. My only concern with him doing both is that he may not be able to practice consistently with either the long track pursuit (which I think is a team event) or the short track relay teams. This wouldn't be fair to the other skaters in either event as the team, as a whole, wouldn't be as well oiled as they could be if all the team members were available to practice at each practice. But, as far as ability, I believe Shani is very capable of qualifying for both teams. He's that good.

That pic of Shani is so awesome! I have some good ones, but this one beats them all for sure.
