This Is NOT the End of the World

Since I've been working my ass off at work over the last weeks, I haven't had much time to myself (i.e. surf the internet), so usually I just do it at home.

When I got home yesterday, my wireless wasn't picking up a signal.

I went up to my desktop, and there was an error on the screen that said the broadband connection was gone. Uh oh.

So I tried everything. Renewing the ip address, turning off the router and turning it on again, logging off my account and logging in again. Oh snap. I don't remember my password. I created an account for me and Dave to log into SBC, and I forgot the password.

I pulled out my laptop and attached it to the phone line, dialing in to AOL. I tried 5 million times to log into the sbcglobal page with 100 iterations of every password I had ever. No luck. What the hell was the password I made for this account?

I struggled for a while, and Dave was sitting at this desk studying.

"Are you panicking?" he asked.

"No."

"Really?"

"Maybe just a little." I replied as my hands started twitching.

Finally, I sucked it up and called tech support. The automated attendant told me that the SBC DSL service around my area was down. Duh, if I called earlier I could have saved myself some grief! I was able to change my password on the phone, but I won't be able to use it til the service comes back up again.

So the lesson to this, kiddies, is just stay at work and use the internet there and don't go home.

...um...just kidding.

Being an IT nerd I'd of done the same things as you did before doing the KISS (Keep it simple stupid) and just calling to see if the connection was down from the carriers end
Your blog cracks me up.

I'm guilty of this also. I never realized that my surfing had become a full blown hobby!
