Go Ahead - Laugh at Me!

When I say I was the biggest geek growing up, I wasn't kidding.

Melanie, Marilyn and ME

This was during my huge glasses, pre-braces, full on acne part of my life. This is the reason I wasn't popular, I didn't get dates, and I had no self esteem for the first 16 years of my life. The trauma of which still lingers with me today.

Why are my glasses so big? I have no idea! Can you believe I actually thought they were cool? Not only were they as big as my face, but I also had them tinted purple and pink. And yes, they ARE squooshing my nostrils down so I can't breathe. To this day I cannot flare my nostrils, which makes me believe I suffered some nerve damage from my heavy glasses.

So go on. Get it out. I brought this nugget of goodness out so you can have yourself a good laugh today!

oh dear god! don't worry though, i had a big glasses phase as well.

Posted by: Nav on January 25, 2005 08:45 AM

I think everyone who's worn glasses had a dorky glasses phase, but mine never obstructed my breathing or caused me neck strain like yours must have.

Poor Yano...I guess those times only made you into the cool, non-geeky girl you are today. Oh, wait a minute...you're still a geek!

ROFL
Oh but Yano you are so hot now. That husband is a lucky man.

i'm right there next to ya (literally) in the dorky department... hahahaha... ;)

My daughter had big glasses whe she was young but not that big. At the time I'm sure they were pretty cool.

I've worn glasses for 46 years..you should see some of the beauties I wore!

Posted by: Sue on January 25, 2005 11:24 AM

At least you changed from awkward duckling to hottie. I imagine that would be cool when you see someone you haven't seen in a long time. I pretty much look the same as I always have!!!

Don't worry girlie, we all went through that phase. I started out with those "cool" round ones that were too big for my face. Thankfully, I never took a picture with those on. It took me years to find a frame that looks good on me!

I don't get how your parents/eye doctor let you get such gigantic glasses. I'm halfway convinced you're playing with us! I have NEVER seen glasses that big before!

Posted by: noelle on January 25, 2005 12:14 PM

Oh my.

Posted by: Denizzy on January 25, 2005 12:47 PM

Woha, the biggest glasses I'd ever seen. Ultra-geek

Posted by: Stan on January 25, 2005 01:37 PM

Good lord! I love how you've become a beautiful swan now that your outside has caught up with your inner beauty.

I can't believe you have the courage to post this photo.

Posted by: maria on January 25, 2005 04:04 PM

my parents found an old box of videotapes last weekend and along with it was my baby tape from nearly 19 years ago! but anyway, it was my 1st bday party and all my aunts and uncles had HUGE-ass glasses! i'm guessing it was the trend back then? haha.

Posted by: Linda on January 25, 2005 05:41 PM

That's awesome!! I had big ol' plastic glasses too that squooshed my nose but I don't think they looked as big on me as yours did on you cuz I had a big head!! Darn Filipino Noses!! I even had to wear tape on my glasses cuz I would always break them!!

Posted by: Marky Mark on January 25, 2005 06:22 PM

Those can't be real. On the other hand up until 7 years ago I wore glassess that were almost that big! And they called them High Fashion and charged me a bundle!

Posted by: chattykathy on January 25, 2005 10:25 PM

I think I've blocked those years out of my memory because I couldn't even TELL who those people were in that picture! If you post any pictures that I am in from years ago I will hunt you down!

Posted by: Irene on January 25, 2005 10:55 PM

Good lord Christine, you're even rockin' the jean jacket!

Posted by: Raven on January 25, 2005 11:03 PM

i'm speechless.

Posted by: Michael on January 26, 2005 12:37 AM

I'm happy to brighten up your day with a blast from my awkward past.

It's also good to know that so many other people out there had the geeky glasses, too. Maybe one day I should throw a 'wear your old geeky glasses' party or something.

...more to come!

Posted by: Yano on January 26, 2005 01:29 AM

It's not your fault. That was the style back then. And the selection of glasses for kids was not as vast as it is today.

Posted by: Halo1 on January 26, 2005 09:55 AM

I still remember my first pair of plastic frames. The style was called 'Sunrise Peach.'

'nuff said
