Ahh, can't get enough of those Olympics! But the Olympics could be more, so much more! If they can have something in there like the trampoline, maybe they'll be open to some other sports. Have any suggestions?
10 Sports That Should Be In the Olympics
1. Ping Pong
2. Bowling
3. Billiards/Pool
4. Golf
5. American Football (so there's another sport that the rest of the world can beat us at)
6. Shuffleboard
7. Ironman Triathalon
8. Dodgeball
9. Polo
10. Rugby

Posted by Yano at August 24, 2004 02:45 AMHey man, how could you leave out inline?
For shame. hahaha And I thought bowling was in the Olympics. Isn't ping pong that same as table tennis?
Posted by: Tex on August 24, 2004 03:07 AMi think they're really adding Golf next time... hmmm. that oughtta be interesting. hehehe. i never really thought of it as an olympic sport.
Posted by: bumblebootie on August 24, 2004 05:13 AMPing Pong IS in the Olympics! I guess you have to be a slacker like me and be home during the day to see it.
I thought for sure your next 10 on Tuesday would be 'Ten Favorite Olympic Moments.'
Posted by: Denizzy on August 24, 2004 06:36 AMYes Denizzy is correct, ping pong is in the Olympics, however they do call it "Table Tennis". They also don't broadcast the matches until about 3AM, of course which I set my alarm to get up and watch because it's simply amazing (and reminds that even tho I play ping pong every day, I still stink!)
Posted by: Karl on August 24, 2004 07:47 AMum, ping pong IS in the olympics. the problem is that they air it at 4am...bastards!
Posted by: thaihoney on August 24, 2004 10:17 AMWhat cracks me up is there was a move afoot a year or two ago to put freaking BRIDGE in the Olympics!
Next up: Monopoly. After that, strip poker. Heck, let's put quarters. Americans would sweep the medals.
Posted by: Noelle on August 24, 2004 10:57 AMStill haven't figured out why they won't add inlining. But then we'd not be getting all those great inliners over to speedskating! Bungee Jumping? In skinsuits? :-D
Posted by: SusanG on August 24, 2004 01:39 PMIn my paper, in the spot where Ron Judd's camping column usually is, it was suggested (in jest, of course, as everything is around here) that "hiking" should be an Olympic sport.
Posted by: janet on August 24, 2004 03:28 PMBlogging!
Then we could create a complex scoring system the judges don't even understand.
Posted by: trisha on August 24, 2004 06:07 PMRugby actually was an Olympic sport until 1924. It wasn't readmitted to the 1928 Olympics due to the IOC's desire to "focus more on individual sports."
However there is also a theory that, because so many more female athletes were starting to compete in the games at that time, the IOC removed some of the less-popular team sports to make room for them.
So... . there's your random rugby factoid for the evening. Why yes, I did work for our rugby team while in college, why do you ask? ;)
Posted by: amandarin on August 24, 2004 10:22 PMI stand corrected - table tennis IS a sport in the olympics. As is the triathalon.
Welcome, amandarin. Thank you for that rugby fact! Now instead of campaigning to bring rugby to the Olympics, then I can campaign to bring it back!!!
Posted by: yano on August 25, 2004 07:07 AMdragonboating should be in the olympics. =) I'm hoping it will be an exhibition sport come beijing 2008!
Posted by: tetleytee on August 25, 2004 08:07 AMI'm all for bowling & rugby. Maybe a little disc golf action?!
Posted by: Lara on August 25, 2004 03:12 PMYeah make inline an Olympic sport people! then maybe, just maybe, Apolo could be in both winter AND summer Olympics! whoo hoo! lol. Wishful thinking.
Posted by: Kaylene on August 25, 2004 11:34 PMYano, if you ever need a random rugby fact I'm your girl!
