The Things I Do For My Friends...

Tonight I head home to Chicago for a little time at home, and to attend my good friend Jen's wedding. I'm going to be reading at the mass, so this is a pretty big deal to me.

So in honor of her wedding, I went off to the mall to buy a new dress for the occasion. I hate dress shopping. I'm not really a dress person, and they never seem to fit me right. But I found one that was kind of fun, in a 'Stepford Wives'-ish kind of way. I think Jen will really love it.

And also, because I know Jen is totally a girly girl, I had my first pedicure today. I called her when I was on my way to the shop. She was pretty surprised. I didn't know what to expect. It was quite an amusing experience, though I still don't know what the fuss is. I tried hard not to giggle when she was using the pumice on my feet. It tickled! I also got to choose what color to put on my toes, though looking back on it, I don't think I picked the right one. The shade of pink is glowing on my tan little toes. I'm totally not into this girly stuff, but in a little way, it was fun, even though I hardly understood a thing my Korean beautician was saying to me.

Not only did I get a pedicure, but I also got my eyebrows waxed, which was an event in itself. My eyebrows must have been pretty scraggly, because when I went up to the lady, she said, 'You want eyebrow wax first?' Uh, yeah...sure. Thanks. I've always been weird about my brows, because they're so sparce. I pluck one and the whole eyebrow is gone. But the lady did a pretty nice job, and there's something comforting about feeling the warmth of the wax on my brow. Then the quick wince of pain when she pulls the strip of cloth off.

So I came out of the place feeling like a whole new woman. I pranced around the apartment in my new dress for a while after coming home. Dave had a good laugh over it.

Unfortunately, I realized all too late that I have a habit of digging my toes into the carpet. Hence, my shiny toes now have this textured carpet fiber look. Oh well. I can do 'em again on my own.

Ahh....the price of beauty! Only Jen can turn me into a girlie girl like this!

Wait, is that you in the pic? You totally look like my Filipina pen pal from junior high! Love the dress!

I have never had a pedicure either. I am not into that girly stuff either but I think I would like it.

Chris - yeah, I'm leaning in the picture.

Noelle - that's because it IS your Filipina pen pal! I hired her to wear the dress and take a picture! OK, fine, it's just me.

That's such a pretty dress. It looks good on you! You should wear dresses more often.
