I went back to work, since a lot of stuff had piled up since yesterday, but also for a little break. It was great to come back in (I can't believe I just said that), more because I've missed so many of the people I work with. I hadn't realized how much I missed all of these people.
I guess word had spread about my mom's condition, so everyone was pretty sensitive to it. I had a talk with the president and the vice president of the company about what I'm going to do for the time I'm here, since I don't know how long I'm staying. Basically, they told me to take my time. They've been so amazingly understanding about this, it's really great.
It was so awesome to see my tech people again, it was as if I never left. Sure, my cube is now used for the CD burner, but Mason the stuffed duck has been holding my place. Talking and joking around with the guys was good for me. It was nice to see Amy again, my only female friend at work.
Working with people is such a strange experience. I've gotten so used to just getting up, turning on the laptop and getting to work as I listen to MTV on the TV for background noise. Now I've got people around me, walking, talking, laughing, etc. I miss it, but it's great to come back to.
I had only intended to work half a day today, and go to the hospital afterwards, but one of my clients had an emergency, and I ended up staying the whole day, and the client never even got back to me. I always seem to get trapped with work.
But once I got to the hospital, it was nice to see that my mom was a bit better. The hospital had given her a new chair so it was easier for her to recline and to sit in all day. She was even holding her cup on her own and didn't need a straw to drink. She seems to be doing better.
Thanks, once again, for all your thoughts.

And I feel nostalgia for your old office -- I feel like I once worked there! And I've never even been to Chicago.
