Positive Thoughts

Please keep my mom in your thoughts.

I got a call early this morning, and after searching for my phone, I found out it was from my cousin Mel. I know that she would NEVER call me that early in the morning unless it was for good reason, and my stomach fell. I had a pretty good idea of why.

I checked the message, and all she said was to call her back as soon as I got the message. The tone of her voice was enough for me.

When I called her back she had told me that they had taken my mom to the hospital earlier that morning. My sister was there with her, so I talked to her for a bit. It turns out that my mom had problems breathing and my dad had called the paramedics. She was at the hospital and stabilized, and my sister would call me with updates.

It doesn't really help me much. I want to BE there, but I can't. One of the reasons I was so reluctant to move to California was that I couldn't be there for my family when they needed me, especially in times like this. (For those of you who don't know, my mom has been battling cancer for a while now) If I wanted to go home, it would take me more than four hours.

All I want to do right now is clap my heels together and say 'There's no place like home' and magically transport myself to my mom, but I can't. I'm left to worry here, thousands of miles away.

So if you can, keep my mom in your prayers, or send your positive thoughts her way, and to the way of my family in Chicago. That's what I'll be doing all day today.

Christine,

Sorry for the belated message. It is difficult being so far from your mother during her illness. I lost both my parents in the last few years so I empathize with your situation and your worries about your mother.
My thoughts are with you, your Mother and your family.
