Girl vs. LA Traffic

So I had a client in downtown LA. The same client I've been visiting in LA for the last couple months. Except instead of staying at the Bonaventure, I'm coming from Casa de Estacio. So I use Mapquest to figure out how long it's going to take me.

35 minutes.

OK, that's without traffic. So, let's say it's an hour, right?

So I wake up late. That's ok, I had wanted to get there early, so leaving at 7:15am should get me there before 8:30. No such luck. Traffic was C-R-A-W-L-I-N-G. The 405 was a mess. The 110 was quicker, but not much so. And it seems that this morning I was cursed - every lane I picked was the slow lane.

Luckily, I worked pretty late and left at around 6:30, so I was thinking that I'd missed the rush. No such luck. Well, the 110 was pretty bad around downtown, but then it cleared up later on. Then it was nice and easy all the way home. You know, without the traffic, the highway is a pretty fun drive around here.

Especially when you've got the radio up and the windows down.

So, it wasn't too bad, but I'll definitely leave earlier tomorrow. IF I wake up, that is!

ugh. I walked 10 minutes to work today. But working for a temp agency won't be as easy every time. Too bad LA doesn't have a good public transportation.

if you figure out the side streets it's really not that bad. but 405 always sucks compared to the 10 or 110.

it kinda makes you miss Chicago traffic, huh? hehehe... :)

Take the 605 North to the 105 East and then 110 N, avoid the 405 like the plauge. 405 sucks, sucks and sucks. It's the most horrible freeway for traffic. That and the 91 going to Cowrona, I mean Corona.

WHOOPS! 105 WEST, not 105 east.

One thing I have learned from some of the guys that commute from the OC to downtown LA is that if you leave early (i.e. 6am) it's not so bad of a drive. However that means you'll be in super early.

If at all possible see if you can get a carpool together, you'll fly down the 105 and 110 in the HOV lane until you hit downtown.

Candace: Watch what you say, soon-to-be SoCal girl!

Raven: Yeah, I left at about 6:30am and I cut my commute by 20 minutes.

Rod: Thanks! Yet another way for me to get lost! Time to pull out my handy laminated map of SoCal.

Mel: Yeah, how I miss 90/94!

Leen: Oh....good idea! I think I discovered a couple street shortcuts the other day when I got lost!

Mona: LA's public transportation doesn't hold a candle to Chicago's! It's great!

Have you learned about car pool lanes yet? The first time I drove on a California highway, I had enough people in the car to travel the car pool lane... but I paid a toll anyway when I crossed the Bay Bridge. Aren't driving rules of the road universal? (or at least national? :P)

[Hey, you can meet Leen (sweetpnay) and other IRCers now that you're in LA :P]
