#31 - So Why Am I Doing This?

Well, I know it's kind of late to do this, but I just wanted to tell y'all why I'm going through this 24 hour torture. I've got a lot of things to do, a wedding to plan, a lot of work, extra projects, etc. But when I saw the concept of the Blogathon, and I could pick a charity of my choice. Rather than just doing it for my favorite charity - Breast Cancer, I saw a link for Gilda's Club, I knew that this was a cause to blog for.

Why cancer? My mom was diagnosed with cancer about 5 years ago. She got a mastectomy, went through chemo, and went into remission. It was a tough time for our whole family. When someone has cancer, more than just the victim is affected. It affects the whole family. My mom put up a big fight, and she made it through.

Last year, it came back. And it spread to her lungs. Back to chemo and all the things that came with it. She lost her hair again. She stayed home from work. She was weak and cranky and had to take a bunch of pills. And this time, it's a lot worse. She's at the point now that she has some nerve damage in her arm, and can't use it too well. She's lost a lot of weight. She can't hold down food. But she's fighting through it. And we're here supporting her.

But it's not easy. There's a lot of times that I just want to break down and cry, and sometimes I do. It's hard to see someone you love suffer. Luckily, I have a great support group of friends and family. And it's good to see that my mom has a positive attitude, even through the tough times. Everytime a challenge comes my way, I think of my mom, and what she has to go through on a daily basis.

So 24 hours of blogging? No problem.

Both my grandma and my aunt on my mom's side of the family both battled breast cancer. Thankfully they both won the fight and have been happy and healthy for several years now. So I wish your mom the best wishes in the world, she sounds like a tough lady, who'll pull through once again.

You're doing a great thing Christine, keep up the good work, you're doing awesome! Lots of people are cheering you on!!!!
