The Yanos at Varekai

The whole family went to see Cirque du Soleil's Varekai yesterday at the United Center. It was my parent's first Cirque show. I had bought three tickets for me, Fata and Dave, and Claudine had bought the tickets for my parents. Dan had already bought tix for him and Claudine. So we were all sitting in different sections. Dave couldn't come, so my aunt from Cincinatti came for the weekend, and she came with us. Now when we get there, I notice that my set of tix is for row 'B'. My parents have row 'F'. I offer my dad to switch places with me and Fatima. My dad says no. We walk into the big tent. I ask him again, 'Are you sure? Our seats are a lot closer than yours'. He gives me the 'Don't ask the question again' look and says, 'No, our seats should be fine.' Ok, have it your way. The usher seats my parents into row F, which is a great set of seats. Then the usher seats me, my sister and my aunt, way closer to the front of the stage. We sit down. I look behind me to make sure my parents are OK. My dad is standing up, looking at me, pointing to me, then pointing to his seat. I can see the 'Row B' envy in his eyes. I look at Fatima, who has witnessed the exchange. We laugh, get up, and head towards 'Row F'. As I pass my parents for the ticket exchange, he said 'Wow, you guys are REALLY close'. I laugh in his face, 'I told you so, but NOOOOO....row F was ok with you! Ha!'

The show was great. I love Cirque. Ever since the first time I saw it in Vegas, I've loved it. My favorite is Mystere, just because it was the first one I watched, and at the end, I just felt like I'd been enchanted. It was such a magical experience. The best one to me is 'O', in Vegas. Definitely worth the megabucks I paid for it. I've seen a whole bunch of the others, and they never leave me disappointed. This one was no exception. The costumes were incredible, the acrobatic feats left me breathless, the clowns were hilarious, and the music was beautiful. And their bodies. Wow. On more than one occasion me and Fata turned to each other and said 'I wonder if he does bachelorette parties?' Another thing I love about Cirque is that the music is live, so if someone messes up a trick, they can keep on trying again and again til they get it right.

This was actually the first show in Chicago, so the audience was really into it. You could feel that the cast was working off our energy, and that they were really having a good time with what they were doing. The things that these people could do, absolutely amazing! From juggling human bodies with their feet to swinging around the audience in a hoop, it was all awesome. I think my dad said it all - "I clapped so much I think my hands are numb."

Was this in a tent ? Because Alegria in a tent was 100x worst than La Nouba, my favorite. I could not get into Alegria for the lifeless acustics.

I would not see another Cirque in a tent. I will see O or Mystique one of these days.

Sounds like great show. I've been watching it on "Bravo". Love the triple trapeze act.

My mom just returned from Vegas where she saw 'O.' She hasn't stopped talking about it. She said it was the most incredible thing she's ever seen!

I've only seen Cirque du Soleil once, but it was phenomenal! I saw Dralion under the big top in Tyson's Corner, VA three years ago. I better go check when they're coming back!!

Argh... sorry for the double post! Ever since I updated my IE (can 't imagine what the connection is), my touchpad is super-sensitive, it's making me nuts!
