Lord of the Rings

So we went out ring shopping yesterday. And Dave is as picky about his rings as he is about his clothes. Question for you all - are our wedding bands supposed to match? He really liked this band that I wasn't overly fond of, and there's no chance of me getting a band to match it. I know that all in all it's our decision, but I was wondering if there's some sort of tradition or something.

And I never realized the importance of cleaning my engagement ring until I held it up next to all the other rings. I could feel my ring's shame at it's dirtiness. Any ring cleaning tips?

my wedding ring is actually an anniversary band because i liked the little row of diamonds. Tom's wedding ring is an anniversary band, too, with comfort fit. both gold, nothing fancy, rather plain. they were not a matching set. they don't have to match - i'd say - because you wouldn't be holding out your hands and showing them off together... would you? it's usually just the bride that does that. :)

I'm not married, just in case you didn't know. :) But, it has been my experience, as a bridesmaid many times, that they do not have to match. As a matter of fact, I don't think I know a couple that does have matching rings. Personally, I believe that if you are the one that has to wear it, you should be the one that likes it, but like I said, "I'm not married."

Well I'm not married either, but as usual I have an opinion anyway! ;)

The matchy ring thing is for jewelry company ads. Each of you should chose the ring you like. It's bad enough you'll be stuck with each other the rest of your life, why be stuck with a ring you aren't comfortable wearing. :P

I'm getting married next year. Our bands probably won't match. I actually threatened to get a replica of "the one ring" :)

Yup, unmatching seems pretty common. My wedding band is also an anniversary band (if I remember right). And I don't think I've run into a couple that have a matching set yet.

I'm gonna have to agree with everyone else and say ixnay on the matching rings. Unless you both happen to love a matching set or something. But even then...

Being a single man with many married friends.....None of my buddies rings match their lovely wives rings.

My coworkers are getting married on Saturday, and their rings don't match. His is a kickass-looking sandblasted titanium (how cool is that??) number, and hers is a pretty white gold ring with diamonds. I say go with what you're comfortable and happy with. Dave doesn't really wear jewelry, so if you two going to be wearing these rings for the rest of your lives, you might want to be happy and comfy with your respective rings, right?
