Dave graduated today from the Des Moines University School of Osteopathy. It was great to see him up getting hooded. He's worked so hard over these last 4 years, and made a lot of sacrifices in the process (one big one being having a long distance relationship with me - it wasn't always easy). His fellow classmates would be the first to tell you that Dave is one of the most studious, hardest working med students out there. And today, all that work, all those late hours studying, have paid off. He's now a doctor of osteopathy.
I am the proudest girlfriend this side of the international dateline. I'm kinda pissed that my camera flaked out on me when I was taking his picture while he was getting hooded. But that's ok, I've got him on my new Sony MiniDV digital video cam. That thing ROCKS! Dave's main goal was not to get his cap knocked off while they were putting the hood on him. He succeeded. Unfortunately, they said his name wrong, saying it 'Esta-show" rather than "Es-tahshow" (like pistacio). Luckily, one if his friends yelled out the correct pronounciation. Speaking of, I'm happy that Dave has made some great friends in school. They're some really good people. They've got their internships in all different places, so we'll have lots of places to stay when we go traveling.
So one major step down in Dave's medical career. Next up, an internship in Downey, CA, where Dave will be moving to in a couple weeks, and I'll be moving to after we get married.
OT - I'm in the car driving back from Des Moines, and earlier a bird hit my windshield. Now it's raining, and the windshield wipers are spreading the guts across my windshield. Eew.
Anyway, congratulations to my Dave. I'm really proud of you!
Posted by Yano at May 24, 2003 10:26 PMcongrats to dave also :) Now, instead of paying the school to abuse him (I never understood how that worked), he gets to sort of get paid to get abused :)
I just graduated myself a week ago.. starting to see the light at the end of the tunnel.

Posted by: Noelle on May 25, 2003 08:01 PMwhy did he go to D.O. school instead of M.D. school?
Posted by: on May 26, 2003 11:45 AMI'm glad despite your efforts to turn him into a speedskater, Dave stayed on track and became Dr. Dave.
Kudos and congragulations!
Gah, I love Yano's posts, bird guts and all!
Posted by: sonia on May 26, 2003 02:11 PMto that anonymous dude,
does it really matter what medical degree he has behind his name? no
Posted by: Pooh on May 26, 2003 10:44 PMTo Dr. Pooh,
AMEN, PAL! (I'm in DO school myself)... and congratulations to you, too!
Posted by: Claudine on May 27, 2003 02:35 PMThanks Claudine :)
what year are you in for DO schoool? I really don't understand ppl who get their underwear all twisted up over MD vs DO. Makes Pooh annnngry.
Posted by: Pooh on June 1, 2003 11:06 PMas a general rule, those who get a DO degree could not get into medical school. how many years did he try before he gave up on getting an MD?
Posted by: on August 2, 2003 09:50 PMwhy do people who weren't able to be DO's OR MD's gotta bust on the DO's? They work as hard as everyone else and i can see the bitterness behind your post. how sad and mean!
does it really matter if someone is a DO or an MD, as long as their working their hardest to help people?
