It's still several months before I make 'the big move' to LA, but sitting in my room, I realize....I've got a lot of SHIT.
I'm a packrat. Always have been, and always will be (and Dave isn't too happy about that, but well, he'll have to live with it). And after a while....you get to pile up a lot of crap when you're a packrat. Crap that really, if I threw it away, I wouldn't miss. But I keep it around to remind me of things - occasions, feelings, people, etc. Old highschool notes, dried flowers, show programs, trinkets from various formals, movie stubs, locks of hair from ex-boyfriends for voodoo purposes, band-aids from favorite wounds, copies of old restraining orders, my toenail clipping collection...um...uh...just kidding...
But I think I've gotta get rid of it. All this junk can't go with me where I'm going, and it can't stay here. I've got to let it go. So today, as much as it pains me, it's getting cleaned out. *sigh*
Also, it was one year ago that I went to my first short track competition. Kinda makes me nostalgic! Who would have known that I would be where I am today, or met the wonderful people that I have? It's kinda crazy, but wonderful at the same time. So lets take a walk through memory lane and look at my pics from that competition...way back before I knew how to use my digital camera!
World Short Track Team Championships - March 29, 2002, Milwaukee WI
Posted by Yano at March 29, 2003 12:54 PMAwwww! Now I'M getting all misty. What great memories. Of course those are your memories. MIne consist of me sitting by myself reading Sports Illustrated during ice breaks, trying not to look like a big dork. Oh, and buying socks in the pro shop.
I think I like your memories better. Your's consists of wrapping yourself around various short track speedskaters. I'm going to get Photoshop and replace your head with mine and put those pics up in my future blog.
Posted by: Denise on March 29, 2003 03:01 PMThanks for the trip down memory lane to World Teams - not that I have memories of Worlds in Milwaukee, but your ST memories are almost the same as having my own anyway. heheh
How funny to think of all the people who were at this event, and didn't know it, but would be brought together later... you, Denise, Terry, Lara, Corin, Torrie and others...
I too have been experiencing a great deal of nostalgia this month, remembering the innocence of our ST youth!
Remember how everyone was so bummed when Apolo didn't show up in Milwaukee? But people went and had a great time there anyway. And found out that guys like KDS and Fabio are human after all.
I must say Christine, you and Rusty look awfully comfy together in that photo (and he appears to be thinking he's quite the stud!). And look at Shani - he's got the cutest smile!
Where have you gone, Dan Weinstein and Ron Biondo?
Damn, Year 1 of ST fandom flew by, but some of this stuff seems impossibly long ago... those days are gone forever. I've missed them a lot lately.
Posted by: Noelle on March 29, 2003 04:10 PMWow, you're really going to clean your room? Good luck sisterfriend, may the force be with you... are you really going to throw out all the formal favors and show programs?
Posted by: Claudine on March 29, 2003 04:36 PMhehe... i still have all the little notes you used to drop in my locker at school. see? you're not the only packrat! ooOOooo... and all our dance pics! you gotta see those! heheh too funny. :)
Posted by: bumblebootie on March 29, 2003 04:59 PMI always keep flowers and stuff. That's what my closet is full of. hehe. But that gets me into trouble. lol.
Posted by: lisa on March 29, 2003 05:32 PMWhoa. That is so weird. I am doing the same exact thing today! Im planning on moving and decided I needed to throw away all my junk. Its painful! I want to keep it all *sigh* I've got newspaper articles on Michael Jordan from eight years ago. Thats pathetic. Piles and piles of newspaper articles. Can we form a packrat support group?
Ooh, I've never seen these pictures before! I think they're good!
c'mon. . .we're all packrats in some way, shape, or form. otherwise, we just wouldn't have any stuff at all!!
what i do is make scrapbooks. that way, i can keep the important stuff, and throw the crap out.
ahh yes, the camp cousellor in me. =)
Posted by: bernadette on March 29, 2003 07:23 PMyou really haven't seen my room, have you... i think Mel can attest that i'm a pack rat, too. :P
